Lord,
What would it have been like to wait for a Savior? The rumors and prophecies repeated in my head until one day, Jesus shows up. I wonder how I would have received your claims! I’m sure I may have been skeptical or confused like so many others. In truth, I’m thankful to have the Word as my guide and the testimony of so many to confirm who you are. You say in John 8:58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
This statement drove the crowds into a fit! The Word says people were “divided” in their understanding of your identity and in this way, things haven’t changed. Thank you for showing us how timeless the choice of our devotion is. We have the same decision before us today. Do we trust who you say you are, or do we call you a liar? The freedom available when you become Lord is at stake. Lord, help us to be your light in a divided and confused world.
