Lord,

Not only can we rely on you in the midst of consequences and suffering, but we can hope in knowing that when the suffering has ended, things will not go back to the way they were. No, instead, they will be better. We will be better. For in the midst of our suffering, you stretch us. In the midst of exile, you stretched the Israelites.

We can know that not only will the night not last, but that the dawn is brighter than the twilight. You will refine us through the furnace. We will shine like gold and gleam like silver when we are treated with your hands. Make our hearts more like yours. Make our eyes see the world as you see it. Make your will our will.

This suffering is not our destiny. This heartache is not our place. You will bring us through it; help us learn from it. Do not let our suffering and pain be in vain. Make us more like you, Father. We love you.

Amen
