Scripture

As much as I’m enjoying the “baby” phase with my son, I can’t help but imagine his future. He isn’t even two years old, but I’ve already thought through what his life might look like in college and as a husband and father one day! I suppose it keeps me motivated when I’m changing another diaper 🙂

In the meantime, I get the opportunity to do whatever I can to help that future be one that benefits the Kingdom of God. Worldly success is tempting but I know what brings true value to my life and I want my son to experience that same value. When I send him off to take care of himself one day, I want to know he’s been equipped with good judgment, wisdom, experience, and a strong faith in God. Reality check; I have a feeling he’ll be more concerned with having his own car, a girlfriend and the latest gaming system. But a mom can dream! Perhaps he’ll be like Solomon.

Solomon was unique. He could have asked God for anything in the world but instead of asking for worldly desires, Solomon sought one God’s wisdom. I wonder if this was the first time God experienced such a request! He responds by pouring wisdom into Solomon’s life which in turn, leads to success in every other area. As we know, this wisdom turned out to be far more valuable than any of the famous riches in Solomon’s Kingdom.

As we pray and seek the Lord’s provision in our life, we will have ample opportunity to ask for Him to meet our needs. Whether it is grocery money, health, a working car, a promotion at work or a future spouse, we will always have a list for Him. As we pray through our list of requests, let us not forget where our priorities are and what brings our life true value. Let our greatest prayer still be to look more like Jesus every day.
