Focus Statement

True joy takes root when we realize that the God who is above all things chose to come near—and remains unchangingly good with us and within us.

Introduction — God is Good All the Time

  • When we say God is good, we are declaring something essential about His nature
  • God’s goodness is not seasonal, emotional, or circumstantial
  • Unlike human goodness, God’s goodness is constant and trustworthy

Words Shape Our Faith

  • What we believe about God determines how we live
  • Phrases like God is good and God is love must be rooted in biblical truth
  • A shallow view of God leads to a fragile faith

The God Who Is Above Us

  • Scripture reveals God as:
    • Transcendent — higher than creation and not limited by it (Isaiah 55:8–9)
    • Immutable — unchanging in character, promises, and love (Malachi 3:6)
    • Sovereign — fully in control and accomplishing His purposes (Proverbs 19:21)
  • God is steady, faithful, and dependable at all times

The God Who Came Near

  • Christianity is unique because God came to us
  • Jesus is God with us
  • The eternal Word became flesh and dwelt among humanity
  • Jesus lived among us, healed the broken, confronted sin, and gave His life to restore us to God
  • God sent the Holy Spirit so He would dwell not just near us, but within us

Walking It Out — The Joy of Christmas

  • God’s goodness is not something He chooses—His goodness is who He is
  • God formed you intentionally (Psalm 139:13–14)
  • God knows you completely (Luke 12:7; Luke 16:15)
  • God gave Himself so you could experience life with Him
  • Because God does not change, our joy does not have to fade
