Focus Statement

We aren’t just preparing a future home; God is preparing us to be the Church that fills it.

Introduction – A Church Worth Pursuing

  • Acts 2:41–47
    • Acts 2 isn’t describing an ideal version of Christianity we’re simply supposed to admire.
    • It’s describing a life we’re supposed to pursue.
  • Churchology has asked: “What kind of Church is Jesus building—and how do we faithfully become that Church?”
  • Maybe we want the fruit of Acts 2:43–47 without the devotion of Acts 2:42.

Devoted

  • Acts 2:42
    • The early Church devoted themselves to:
      • The apostles’ teaching — submitting their lives to God’s truth.
      • Fellowship — sharing their lives with God’s people.
      • Breaking bread — gathering around the Lord’s Table and one another’s tables.
      • Prayer — living in dependence upon God.
  • They weren’t merely interested or occasionally involved—they were devoted.

Entrusted

  • God has placed new opportunities and resources in our hands to help us pursue the life described in Acts 2.
  • The property isn’t the vision. Acts 2 is the vision.
  • The property is simply another tool God may be entrusting to us to pursue it.
  • Our question should be: “What is my part in what God is building?”

Becoming

  • Buildings don’t study Scripture, pray, bear burdens, practice generosity, share the gospel, or make disciples; People do.
  • If we want to become an Acts 2 church, we have to become Acts 2 people.
  • Churchology asked: “What kind of Church are we called to be?”
  • James will ask: “What kind of Christian am I becoming?”

Walking it Out – Live Like a Citizen of New Jerusalem

  • Be excited about what God is building around us, but even more excited about who God is building us to become.
  • Ask yourself:
    • Where is my devotion weakest?
    • What step can I take this week?
  • We aren’t simply preparing a future home. We’re becoming a Church that looks more and more like the one Jesus intended all along.

Next Week…

  • Next Sunday will look a little different as we gather for Property Preview Sunday! You’ll have the opportunity to tour our future church property, see conceptual artwork of what the property could become, and hear more about the vision for how it can serve our church and community. Most importantly, we’ll spend time together in prayer and worship, asking God to guide us into the future He has for our church. Come ready not just to see what is there, but to imagine what God could do there.
