Romans 8:35-39

35 Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36 (As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”) 37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

v. 35, trouble = Gr. pressure. To squeeze the juice out of.

Calamity = Gr. stuck in a confined space.

v. sky above or earth below gr. astronomical terms. Nothing in this world…

The question (v.35): Can anything separate us from Christ’s love?

Answer: (v.37) NO!

Because of the LOVE of Christ… I can have 3 mindsets.

1: Despite all these things

Romans 8:37

37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Overwhelming victory = Gr. over-conquer. To conquer completely without any threat.

1 John 4:9-10

9 God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

2: Convinced that nothing

Romans 8:38

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Romans 14:8

8 If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

3: No power

Romans 8:39

No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

will ever be able to – Gr. dynamai… En. Dynamic. Incredible ability.

Same word used…

John 10:28-30

28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand. 30 The Father and I are one.”

no one can snatch them away – Gr. dynamai… Dynamic.

He is more powerful than anyone else – Gr. Mega… Impenetrable.
