Anchor Verses

Luke 22, Psalm 126, Isaiah 53

Focus Statement

If we want to know the voice of the Spirit, we must look to the life of Jesus. Philippians 2 shows us that true obedience is not driven by emotion, but by surrender. The path of Christ will always lead us to trust God’s will over our own.

Intro: Series Recap

  • We all face the tension between our will and God’s will
→ The challenge isn’t knowing what God wants
→ It’s choosing it when it costs us something

The Pressing (Gethsemane)

  • Luke 22:42–44
    • Jesus felt the weight of what obedience would require
      • “Father… remove this cup from me… nevertheless, not my will, but Yours be done”
    • Truth:
      • It’s okay to ask God for relief
      • But don’t stop there—surrender follows request
    • Key Idea:
      • The pressing isn’t just what’s happening to you…it’s what’s being formed in you
    • Reality:
      • God doesn’t always remove the pressure
      • He strengthens you within it
    • Takeaway:
      • We ask boldly… and surrender fully

The Crushing (The Cross)

  • Isaiah 53:5 | 2 Corinthians 5:21
    • Jesus didn’t just feel the weight…
      • He carried the weight of sin, guilt, and judgment
    • Truth:
      • He was crushed for what wasn’t His—He carried ours
    • Picture:
      • The verdict was guilty
      • The weight didn’t disappear… it was transferred
    • Key Idea:
      • Jesus was crushed… so you wouldn’t be
    • Reality:
      • You may feel pressure
      • But in Christ, you are not under condemnation
    • Takeaway:
      • Don’t carry what Jesus already took

The Promise (Resurrection)

  • Luke 24:5–6 | Revelation 1:18
    • “He is not here… He has risen”
    • Truth:
      • The weight didn’t win
      • Death didn’t win
      • The grave didn’t win
    • Key Idea:
      • What was pressed… what was crushed… was not wasted
    • Victory:
      • Jesus went into death… and came out holding the keys
    • Takeaway:
      • What feels heavy now does not get the final say

Walking It Out — Our Response

  • For Believers: Release the Weight
    • What are you still carrying?
    • Guilt? Shame? Control?
    • You don’t honor Jesus by carrying it…
    • you honor Him by trusting that He already did
  • For Everyone: Surrender Your Will
    • “Not my will… but Yours be done”
    • Where is God asking you to trust Him?
    • What are you holding onto?
  • Invitation: Receive What Jesus Has Done
    • Romans 10:9
    • You have a choice:
    • → Keep carrying it
    • → Or finally lay it down
      • Jesus already carried the weight—you don’t have to carry it anymore

Final Though

  • He was pressed, He was crushed, and He conquered death so you could walk free—hand in hand with Him. Go and live in that freedom, knowing we serve a holy God worthy of all praise.
