Anchor Verses:

Genesis 3:8-12, Hebrews 11:4, Romans 3:10-12

Focus Statement:

Even in our rebellion, God pursues us with mercy, revealing that the origin of sin and the hope of redemption are rooted in His unwavering desire for communion with us.

Introduction: God’s Original Design

  • God is good, relational, and desires community with humanity.
  • He created a space (Eden) for us to dwell with Him.
  • True love requires free will.
  • Humanity cannot define “good” rightly—only God is good.

The Fall:

  • Adam and Eve disobey God—immediate evidence of sin: shame, blame, hiding.
  • Genesis 3:8–12: broken relationship and hiding from God.
  • Despite rebellion, God initiates a redemptive promise (first covenant).
  • Genesis 3:14–19: judgment, but also hope.

The Corruption of Sin:

  • Sin pattern continues throughout Genesis:
    • Adam & Eve – disobedience.
    • Cain & Abel – envy, murder, and poor heart posture (Gen. 4:1–7; Heb. 11:4).
    • Noah – drunkenness.
    • Babel – pride and disobedience.
    • Abraham & Sarah – lies, doubt.
    • Lot & wife – hesitation and disobedience.
    • Jacob – deception.

Battle of the Mind:

  • Genesis 4:8–16: Cain’s sin grows from within.
  • Derek Prince: sin is a battle of the mind.
  • Romans 3:10–12 (quoting Psalm 14): none are righteous—our need for forgiveness is total.

Walking it Out:

  • Without recognizing our need for forgiveness, we will feed corruption.
  • Heart posture matters more than external action.
