Father, may our prayer and petition today echo the heart of St. Francis when he composed the prayerful lyrics, “Make me an instrument of your peace.”  To you, the Prince of Peace, we cry out, longing for peace on earth to prevail, and praying that you would use our lives as willing instruments in that pursuit.  And toward all people around us whose lives are diminished by poverty, doubt, and despair, Lord, we pray that you would give us generous hearts of care and comfort.  May you cause us to hate hatred only, to oppose chaos and violence, to share the peace and comfort of your Spirit with people everywhere who suffer under oppression.  Make us zealous and compassionate, Father, in our response to your calling to manifest in our lives the gifts of your Holy Spirit—of peace, love, and joy— as we spread the hope that springs from your merciful love and peace.
