Scripture

2 Kings 9-10 has a lot of violence. There are some rough things going on here. We see Jezebel finally meet her fate after all the things she has done.  We see all the men who served Ahab, an evil king, meet their fates as well. We see Jehu take over as king and he wipes out all the evil worship of Baal. It appears that Jehu is obeying God and taking care of all things he was asked to do, until we get to verse 29-31.  God rewards Jehu for doing they things he did. However, Jehu doesn’t wipe out worship of two golden calves. He took care of worshipping the false god Baal, but he didn’t completely clear out the bad things.  In fact, it says that Jesu was not careful to walk with the Lord with all his heart.

We can do great things for the Lord, things that he calls us to do. However, one of the real challenges lies in walking with all our heart. Following God on things that we easily agree with and things we don’t.  Maybe Jehu didn’t really consider the golden calves to be a problem. I mean the real sin was Baal…golden calves aren’t as bad right?  I mean God really hates the sin of_________, but just having a temper is more acceptable, isn’t it?  Or maybe Jehu had some close friends that liked the golden calves and he planned to keep working with them about following God but for now it was better to let it go.  Maybe Jehu was worried that too many people still liked the calves and would be upset with him.

The real issue for me, is can I walk with my whole heart? I am not speaking of this in terms of being saved or being blessed, just simply in terms of following HIM with my whole heart in everything.

God knows us and loves us…. He doesn’t see a moment of disobedience as a loss of relationship.  However, the areas and moments where we aren’t following God create hurts and problems that God doesn’t want for us. Sometimes those hurts can run really deep, and they impact us, our families, and even people we may not know.  It can be tough because of who we are as humans, but it can also be as simple as doing whatever He tells us to do!
